General: Home Maintenance
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
Maintenance isn’t fun, but in our experience it is by far the best thing you can do for your house to both increase longevity, as well as avoid surprises in the future caused by neglect. Check the article link below for more tips.
Every home requires some level of maintenance.
Smoke Detectors, Gutters, Caulking, Paint, Etc all require ongoing maintenance. Repainting windows, changing batteries, trimming shrubs and clearing leaves out of gutters are all examples of maintenance that should be performed, or at least checked, annually.
Change those Batteries
Many safety devices and detectors in our homes have battery backups that should be changed regularly. Check your owner’s manual for each device for specifics. Don’t be the homeowner who throws the smoke detector in garage when it starts chirping!
Don’t forget your Mechanicals!
Furnace filters are a commonly overlooked Maintenance item. Clean or change yours every 1-3 months.
Do An Annual Check
Obviously there is more to home maintenance that what we list here. A good rule of thumb is to go through your house at least once a year, from Attic to Basement, and give everything a good look-over.
