Electrical: Common Outlet Wiring Issues
Outlets and GFCIs are some of the most common electrical problems we find during inspections.
GFCI Outlets
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets are required in several areas of most homes, mainly bathrooms, kitchens, and exterior or wet areas. Common GFCI problems include failing to trip or reset, improper wiring, and being connected to other fixtures such as bathroom or kitchen lighting. Most GFCI issues can be solved by rewiring the outlet or replacing the receptacle.
Reverse Polarity Outlets
Reverse polarity outlets are outlets where the hot and neutral wires were installed backwards. In many cases, simply rewiring the outlet fixes the problem. Investigate further and work with an electrician to correct this common installation error.
