Exterior: Kickout Flashing

HomeSight Inspections

Kickout Flashings

This flashing diverts water running off a roof away from the wall of the house, which keeps water from getting behind the siding and causing damage. Depending on the siding system and installation method, the flashing may not be visible. It is one of the most common flashing mistakes we catch during our inspections.

Can a Missing Flashing Be Added?

Yes. How difficult it is to add the flashing after the roofing and siding are installed depends on those materials; vinyl siding is generally much easier to work with than stucco. The flashing is typically installed under the roof shingles and the siding. A quality exterior contractor can recommend the best solution for your house.

Missing kickouts can mean hidden water damage.

Moisture testing shows whether water has already gotten behind the siding.
